2004-2005 has seen major changes in my personal life including the sale of my retail businesses and a return to the single life after 12 years. My studio has transformed into a research lab as I try to duplicate the oil glazing methods of Titian, focusing on technical issues rather than conceptual development.

One of the problems that has been a long-lived creative hang-nail for me has been the slow drying time associated with working in oils. And while the use of acrylics easily solves this problem there remains the issue of luminosity. Acrylics simply can't compare scientifically or aesthetically.

Therefore, the majority of my current work has been concerned with developing solutions for this technical issue which has been solved by a painting medium using dammar varnish, Venetian turpentine, Mastic resin and turpentine. Now glazes dry in 30 minutes and are ready for more work with minimal disruption to the previously applied layer. This personal discovery is now allowing me to again pursue content and work on a multitude of canvases simultaneously.
