These works have progressed from an interest in computing systems, language, visualization, and sequential representation. A selection of text from the titled classic works of literature is converted from its ASCII representation to 8-bit binary resulting in an unbroken string of 1’s and 0’s. Where a “1” exists in the string, a dark area is plotted. The string begins near the center of the circle on line 1 and radiates outward progressing clockwise.
My motivation for making these works lies in a curiosity that there may exist visual patterns in human forms of communication which can be made visible by removing the lens of the analog-to-digital conversion that happens in computing systems, but also within our own brains. For me, these works are a unique form of representational art rather than abstraction.
