
Born in 1967, Heather received her B.F.A. from the University of Florida in 1990 and her M.F.A from New Mexico State University in 1995. She has taught painting, drawing, design, and art appreciation courses in numerous locations from 1992-1999, and has given lectures about her work at SAS, Cassilhaus, and the Ackland Art Museum.
Heather relocated to Durham, NC in 2009 where she continues to pursue her interests in art and design. She is currently the artist liaison at Golden Belt where she keeps her studio and works to coordinate events, foster public awareness and facilitate professional development for the 40+ artists in her group.
In 2010, Heather participated in Lori Waxman’s 60wrd/min art critic performance in Durham with a review published by The Independent. Her work, Moby Dick, received 2nd place at the Draw The Line exhibition at the Visual Art Exchange in Raleigh, and she participated in the 21st Annual N.E.W. Show juried by Steven Matijcio (juror), Curator of Contemporary Art at SECCA. In the fall of 2010, Heather’s work was part of the Weatherspoon Museum’s Art on Paper 2010 biennial exhibition and the New Directions ’10 Juried Exhibition at the Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie, NY where she was awarded an Honorable Mention by juror Nat Trotman, Associate Curator at the Guggenheim Museum of Art. Her work was also included in the 14th Annual No Dead Artists National Juried Exhibition at the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery in New Orleans. Most recently, Heather became the recipient of the Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artist Grant which she used to fund an artist residency at the Vermont Studio Center.
In 2011, Heather’s work was part of Local Histories: The Ground We Walk On, which opened January 28th in Chapel Hill, NC and traveled to the Hillsborough Museum for the month of June 2011. A second show titled Listenings in Raleigh, NC at the Block Gallery opened February 3, 2011. Heather also participated in the Systems National Juried Exhibition at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, the 2011 Artist Exhibition by the Raleigh Fine Art Society, and State of the Art / Art of the State at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC. From Dec 8, 2011 – Jan 12, 2012, she had a solo exhibition at the Durham Arts Council titled Hear & Now exploring how sound can exist in multiple spaces (conceptual, physical, memory) simultaneously.
From Feb 3 – April 1, 2012, Heather’s work will be part of Word Maps at the Green Hill Center for NC Art, and will give a presentation of her work on February 15th to accompany the exhibition. She is currently creating new work as part of group show at Flanders Gallery in Raleigh slated for March 2012.
