**Artist's Note: In recent days
I have found myself glued to the media watching the aftermath of
Hurricane
Katrina unfold. So many horrific stories and images and many more
I am certain we are not seeing through broadcast news. As one man
described how in Biloxi they paint the roofs red when the home
holds a dead person, I simply could not get the image out of my
mind. Why
not a large white "X"? A yellow mark or some such other color?
Red is a peculiar kind of color.
[Red] stands for clarity and martyrdom, hell, love, youth,
fervor, boasting, sin and atonement. It is the most popular color,
particularly with women. It is the first color of the newly born
and the last seen on the deathbed.
